1. Flexural Rigidity & Cross-Section Properties
The flexural rigidity is EI, where E is Young's Modulus and I is the area moment of inertia. For a rectangular cross-section of width b and depth h, I = (b · h³) / 12.
A split-stage instrument: geometry and load on the left, the bending beam on the right, and a live solver panel underneath. Everything shares one source of truth.
Pinned left, roller right, point load P at midspan.
The solver is physically exact; the stage amplifies the curve so microns stay visible at metre scales.

Mecha Atelier evaluates beam bending under the Euler–Bernoulli beam hypothesis, assuming linear-elastic material response and small angles of rotation:
The flexural rigidity is EI, where E is Young's Modulus and I is the area moment of inertia. For a rectangular cross-section of width b and depth h, I = (b · h³) / 12.
- Simply-Supported Beam with Central Point Load P: δ_max = (P · L³) / (48 · E · I), M_max = (P · L) / 4. - Cantilever Beam with Tip Point Load P: δ_max = (P · L³) / (3 · E · I), M_max = P · L at the fixed support. - Simply-Supported Beam with Uniform Load w: δ_max = (5 · w · L⁴) / (384 · E · I), M_max = (w · L²) / 8.
Normal bending stress distribution is evaluated via the flexure formula: σ(y) = (M · y) / I. Peak tensile and compressive stresses occur at outer fibers: σ_max = (M_max · (h / 2)) / I.
